Ryan is the second youngest of five kids, raised in Logan Utah. In High School he discovered a passion for oil painting and became a serious painter. On the completion of his senior year he entered an art competition representing five high schools and was awarded best in show for his oil painting “Harvest”.
After graduating from high school Ryan attended Utah State for a year before leaving for a mission for his church. Shortly before leaving he had his first solo art show to earn money to cover expenses of his mission. It was very successful, he sold many paintings earning enough money to cover half of the expenses of his mission.
Ryan is presently a senior at Utah State University, majoring in drawing and painting. He is also receiving a teacher’s certificate in art education. After graduation Ryan plans to further his art education as he pursues a Master of Fine Arts.
This past year Ryan was awarded an undergraduate teaching fellow position at USU, his mentor was Chris Terry, and he helped teach the oil painting class. This past summer Ryan completed an art study abroad in Essen Germany, the emphasis of this was painting techniques, environment, and exploration of contemporary and historical art in Europe. While studying in Germany he also had the opportunity to tour France, and the Netherlands.
Ryan has completed several commissioned oil painting. He has an oil painting featured at Alvey’s Candy Shop, located at the Cache Valley Mall.
